Live counters vs. plated service: what actually works for Pakistani weddings

Live counters read as more generous and let guests move at their own pace, but they also demand more kitchen coordination than plated service. Every counter has to be replenished on a rolling basis or it becomes the one part of the evening guests remember for the wrong reason.

Plated service is easier to time precisely and suits a seated, program-driven evening, but it needs a front-of-house team large enough to serve the full guest count inside a tight window without the room feeling like it's waiting on food.

In practice, guest count is the deciding factor more often than preference: live counters tend to work better past 400 guests, where a single service window becomes logistically difficult regardless of staffing.
